第22回世界テコンドー選手権大会の特集記事番外編として、大会に参加した海外の師範・コーチへのインタビューをご紹介します。
第8回目はグリーンランドチームのLouis Nielsenヘッドコーチ4段のインタビュー記事です。
大会の感想やグリーンランドでのテコンドーの様子などをお伺いしました。

世界大会について
Louis Nielsenヘッドコーチ、インタビューにご協力くださりありがとうございます。
早速ですが、今回の世界選手権全体の感想をお聞かせください。
第一印象は、若いボランティアたちが大会運営を手伝っていたことです。私が彼らをとても尊敬しています。彼らはたくさんの仕事をしてくれて、とても良い大会になりました。
続いて、今回の世界大会で最も印象に残っていることをお聞かせください。
最も印象に残っているのは、トゥルにおける技術の高さです。
また、マッソギはまだまだテクニックが向上すると思います。今大会でも素晴らしいファイティングスタイルによる良い試合をたくさん見ることができました。
今大会に参加した日本選手団の印象をお聞かせください。
日本の師範たちが私たちに示してくれた優しさ、そして日本チームの優しさは私たちにとって感動的でした。
私たちは同じホテルにいてよく会ったていたので、日本チームのことは会場でも見ていましたが、特にトゥルにおいて非常に優れた技術があることに気づきました。
また日本チームに会えることを楽しみにしています。
今大会に向けてグリーンランド代表選手たちはどのように準備したのですか？
私たちのチームの2人の選手は、まずヨーロッパ選手権に向けてトレーニングを積んできました。
その後、彼らはそこからパターンを変えずにトレーニングを続けました。
ヨーロッパ選手権から世界大会までの準備期間はわずか3か月でした。

日本選手団へのメッセージをお願いします。
日本の選手と師範の皆さん。グリーンランドチームは皆さまが世界大会で見せてくれた優しさと友情にとても感謝しています。
そして、日本チームの非常に優れた技術に感銘を受けました。
グリーンランドでのテコンドーについて
グリーンランドではテコンドーはどれくらい人気がありますか？
テコンドーは、ヨーロッパ選手権や世界選手権でメダルを獲得できる唯一の競技であるため、かなり人気があります。
しかし、サッカーやハンドボール、スキーのような人気はありません。
グリーンランドではどの世代でテコンドーが盛んですか？
テコンドーの練習生のほとんどは10～14歳の子どもで、ベテランやシニアは少ないです。
グリーンランドについて
グリーンランドの観光名所や食べ物を教えてください。
最大の観光名所は、氷が海に流れ出ている北グリーンランド、非常に大きな氷山、釣りと狩猟です。
観光はますます人気が高まっています。また、魚もとても人気があります。そのほかには野生のトナカイの肉をお勧めします。 ジャコウウシとクジラなどもとても美味しい食べ物です。

Please tell us about your impressions of the World Championships in general.
First impression was, why are some of the nation’s not in the champions and why are
some of the teams so small. I admire the young volunteers, they did a lot of work. It was a good tournament.
Please tell us what left the biggest impression on you at this world tournament.
My biggest impression was the technique in patterns and sparring is still getting better, I saw so many good fights with great fighting style and so many very good technique in pattern.
Please tell us your impressions of the Japanese team.
The kindness the Japanese masters showed us, and the kindness from the Japanese team was overwhelming for us,
since we have been in same hotel and we have met, we were watching the Japanese participants, we noticed there very good technique especially in patterns. We hope to meet the team again.
How popular is taekwondo as a martial art in your country?
Taekwon-Do is quite popular, since it is the only sport who wins medal at European championships and World championships, since we are not So many In our country, we get very proud of the achievements from Taekwon-do. But not so popular as football and handball and skiing to practice the sport.
Which generation of people in your country practices taekwondo the most?
Most of Taekwon-do practitioners are children especially 10 to 14 years old, then teenagers and veterans, seniors are less we have.
How long have your country’s representative athletes been practicing for this world championship?
Our 2 members in the team have been training up to European Championship first, then they have kept there patterns straight, only 3 months the have prepared for world championship.
Please tell us about your country’s tourist attractions and recommended foods.
The biggest tourist attraction is north Greenland where ice is coming out to the sea, very big icebergs, fishing and hunting
tourism is getting more and more popular. Our fish is very popular and | would recommend meat from the wild, reindeer and
musk ox and whale, which is very good food.

I would like to say to the Japanese participants and masters; thank you very much for the kindness and good friendship you showed us, from Greenlandic team we
were impressed for the very good technique the Japanese team have.
