第22回世界テコンドー選手権大会の特集記事番外編として、大会に参加した海外の師範・コーチへのインタビューをご紹介します。
第5回目は南アフリカから国際審判員として参加したMaster Michelle Rahl国際審判員へのインタビュー記事です。
大会の感想や南アフリカでのテコンドーの様子などをお伺いしました。

世界大会について
Michelle Rahl国際審判、インタビューにご協力くださりありがとうございます。
早速ですが、今回の世界選手権全体の感想をお聞かせください。
世界大会はいつもながら貴重なものです。テクニックのレベルは常に向上し、私たちの美しい芸術であるテコンドーへの情熱は常に存在しています。
その情熱を共有する何千人もの人々と一つの場所にいることは素晴らしいことです。
続いて、今回の世界大会で最も印象に残っていることをお聞かせください。
アンパイアとして参加した私は、多くのグランドマスターやマスターと共に審判をしました。
いつも進んで助け、教えてくれて彼らがいかに謙虚であるかということに心を打たれました。
今大会に参加した日本選手団の印象をお聞かせください。
日本選手団は本当に素晴らしい！テコンドーが素晴らしいだけでなく、どの選手もテコンドー精神を体現していたのが特に気に入りました。
また、常に周りの人たちへ敬意を払い、謙虚な姿勢でした。

日本選手団へのメッセージをお願いします。
努力は必ず報われます。メダルを取ることだけではなく、私たちの美しい芸術としてのテコンドーを皆さんと分かち合いましょう。
そして、2025年にイタリアで皆さんにお会いできることを楽しみにしています。
南アフリカでのテコンドーについて
南アフリカではテコンドーはどれくらい人気がありますか？
残念ながら思っているほどの人気はありませんが、常にテコンドーを広めるために努力をしています。
南アフリカについて
南アフリカの観光名所や食べ物を教えてください。
南アフリカは、冬でもほとんど沈まない美しい太陽が有名です。
食事ではパップとヴリースのほか、パップと肉を添えたブライスが有名です。
また、ケープタウンのような美しい街にも多くの魅力があります。

Please tell us about your impressions of the World Championships in general.
The World Championship as always is priceless. The level of technique always improves and the passion for our beautiful art, Taekwon-Do is always present. its amazing to be in one place with thousands of people who share your passion.
Please tell us what left the biggest impression on you at this world tournament.
For me as an umpire being the presence of so many Grandmasters and Master, it touched my heart as to how humble most of them are. Always willing to help and teach.
Please tell us your impressions of the Japanese team.
Japan, Japan, Wow!! Besides being amazing at Taekwon-Do, I especially loved that every single competitor showed the tenets of Taekwon-Do. Always respectful and humble.
How popular is taekwondo as a martial art in your country?
Not as popular as we would like but we are always working hard to spread Taekwon-Do.
Please tell us about your country’s tourist attractions and recommended foods.
South Africa is known for our beautiful sun, that hardly ever sleeps even in winter. We are famous for our Braais with pap and vleis… pap and meat. We are blessed with the big five, no they don’t walk around us but are available to be seen at our Kruger National Park. We also have the beautiful city of Cape Town that has many attractions.
Please give a message to the Japanese national taekwondo team and Japanese taekwondo trainees.
Hard work always pays off. Never about winning a medal but by sharing our beautiful art with everyone. Keep going strong and I hope to see you all in Italy in 2025.
